Good Morning UAE Job Seekers! ☀️
Let me ask you a question.
If a recruiter removed the company names and employment dates from your CV, would they still understand what makes you a strong candidate?
Or would your experience section look almost identical to hundreds of other CVs?
Think about these familiar sentences:
Responsible for daily operations.
Handled customer complaints.
Managed sales activities.
Maintained company records.
Worked with different departments.
These statements may be true.
But they don't tell an employer much about the level of responsibility you handled, the skills you used or the contribution you made.
Imagine two candidates applying for the same Customer Service Executive position.
Both have five years of experience.
Candidate A writes:
“Responsible for handling customer enquiries and complaints.”
Candidate B writes:
“Handled 40–50 customer enquiries daily through phone and email, maintained service records and escalated complex cases according to company procedures.”
Which statement helps you understand the candidate's experience more clearly?
Candidate B gives useful context: workload, communication channels, responsibilities and process.
It doesn't guarantee an interview, but it provides more evidence for a recruiter to evaluate.
And that is today's central lesson:
Your CV should not simply describe where you worked. It should help an employer understand what you can do.
All candidate examples and numerical achievements in this edition are illustrative. Use only information that is true for your own experience.

Blu Dot surpasses 2,000% ROAS with self-serve CTV ads
Home furniture brand Blu Dot blew up on CTV with help from Roku Ads Manager. Here’s how:
After a test campaign reached 211,000 households and achieved 1,010% ROAS, the brand went all in to promote its annual sales event. It removed age and income constraints to expand reach and shifted budget to custom audiences and retargeting, where intent was strongest.
The results speak for themselves. As Blu Dot increased their investment by 10x, ROAS jumped to 2,308% and more page-view conversions surpassed 50,000.
“For CTV campaigns, Roku has been a top performer,” said Claire Folkestad, Paid Media Strategist, Blu Dot. “Comping to our other platforms, we have seen really strong ROAS… and highly efficient CPMs, lower than any other CTV partner we've worked with.”
Using Roku Ads Manager, the campaign moved from a pilot to a permanent performance engine for the brand.
1. What a Recruiter Is Actually Looking for in Your CV
Imagine you're applying for an Operations Coordinator position.
The employer needs someone who can maintain records, coordinate suppliers, communicate with internal teams and follow up on deadlines.
Your CV says:
“Worked as an Operations Executive for five years.”
That tells the recruiter how long you held the position.
It doesn't explain whether you have the experience this employer needs.
When reviewing a CV, a recruiter may be trying to answer four important questions.
Have You Performed the Relevant Work?
If the vacancy requires vendor coordination, does your CV demonstrate that experience?
If it requires inventory reconciliation, can the recruiter find evidence of your involvement?
What Level of Responsibility Did You Handle?
Did you support one department or coordinate several teams?
Did you maintain a small set of records or manage complex operational documentation?
What Tools and Systems Did You Use?
Examples include:
Microsoft Excel for reporting.
SAP for inventory or finance processes.
CRM software for customer follow-ups.
POS systems for transaction reconciliation.
Primavera P6 for project scheduling.
Mention these tools only when you've genuinely used them.
What Did Your Work Contribute?
Did you complete a project?
Reduce recurring errors?
Maintain accurate records?
Resolve customer issues?
Support an operational improvement?
Not every contribution needs to be expressed as a percentage.
Recruiter's Perspective: A useful CV reduces uncertainty. It helps an employer understand whether your experience matches the position.
2. The Formula: Action + Scope + Result
You don't need complicated English to write a professional CV.
You need specific information.
Use this practical formula:
ACTION: What did you do?
SCOPE: What process, workload, project or responsibility did you handle?
RESULT: What was the outcome, contribution or business purpose?
Example
Weak Statement:
“Responsible for preparing reports.”
Stronger Statement:
“Prepared weekly inventory reports in Excel for the warehouse team, highlighting stock discrepancies for supervisor review.”
Let's break it down.
Element | Example |
|---|---|
Action | Prepared |
Scope | Weekly inventory reports in Excel |
Result / Purpose | Highlighted discrepancies for supervisor review |
Notice something important?
We haven't invented a percentage.
We haven't claimed that inventory accuracy improved by 50%.
We've simply explained the work clearly.
What If You Have Genuine Numbers?
You can include them.
For example:
“Responded to an average of 45 customer enquiries daily through phone and email while maintaining service records in the company CRM.”
The number helps explain the workload.
But only use it if you can reasonably support it.
A credible CV is more valuable than an impressive-looking CV you cannot explain during an interview.
3. Five CV Makeovers: Before and After
These examples are hypothetical and designed to demonstrate professional CV writing.
Example 1: Sales Executive
Before:
“Responsible for sales, customer handling and achieving targets.”
After:
“Managed approximately 40 customer enquiries weekly, followed up on quotations through the CRM and achieved 110% of the quarterly sales target.”
Why It's Stronger:
It explains customer volume, sales activity, systems and results.
If you didn't achieve 110% of your target, don't use that figure.
A truthful alternative:
“Managed customer enquiries, prepared quotations and maintained follow-up records to support the monthly sales pipeline.”
Example 2: Customer Service Executive
Before:
“Handled calls and solved customer problems.”
After:
“Handled inbound customer enquiries through phone and email, documented service requests in the CRM and escalated unresolved issues to the appropriate support teams.”
Why It's Stronger:
It explains communication channels, documentation and escalation procedures.
If you have verified customer satisfaction or quality scores, you may include them.
Never invent performance figures.
Example 3: Administrative Assistant
Before:
“Responsible for office administration and documentation.”
After:
“Maintained employee records, organised supplier documents, scheduled departmental meetings and prepared administrative reports using Microsoft Excel.”
Why It's Stronger:
It identifies specific administrative functions.
An additional achievement, when true, might be:
“Introduced a shared document tracker that made current supplier records easier for the administration team to locate.”
Example 4: Accountant / Accounts Assistant
Before:
“Handled accounts and prepared financial reports.”
After:
“Processed supplier invoices, reconciled bank transactions, maintained accounts payable records and assisted with monthly closing reports using the company's accounting system.”
Why It's Stronger:
It demonstrates knowledge of specific accounting processes.
A verifiable achievement might be:
“Identified duplicate invoice entries during supplier reconciliation before payment processing.”
Example 5: Warehouse / Storekeeper
Before:
“Responsible for warehouse operations and stock management.”
After:
“Recorded inbound and outbound stock movements, verified delivery quantities against supporting documents and maintained inventory records in the warehouse management system.”
Why It's Stronger:
It explains the candidate's actual role in inventory operations.
An additional contribution might be:
“Introduced a daily stock discrepancy log to support investigations into missing or incorrectly recorded items.”
Only claim that achievement if you genuinely introduced the process.
4. What If You Don't Have Numbers or KPIs?
Not everyone works in sales or a role measured through percentages.
Receptionists, security guards, drivers, cleaners, office assistants and administrative employees still perform valuable work.
You can demonstrate your experience through responsibility, complexity and contribution.
Show the Complexity
Weak: “Managed reception.”
Better: “Managed front-desk enquiries, coordinated visitor access and directed incoming requests to the appropriate departments.”
Show the Process
Weak: “Handled documents.”
Better: “Checked submitted documents for completeness, updated internal records and followed up on missing information.”
Show Coordination
Weak: “Worked with different teams.”
Better: “Coordinated with procurement, warehouse and accounts teams to follow up on purchase orders and delivery documentation.”
Show Problem-Solving
Weak: “Helped improve operations.”
Better: “Identified recurring filing errors and supported the introduction of a standard document naming process.”
Show Responsibility
Weak: “Responsible for security.”
Better: “Conducted scheduled patrols, maintained incident logs and followed site procedures for visitor access and emergency escalation.”
Your contribution doesn't have to be extraordinary. It needs to be relevant, specific and truthful.
5. ATS-Friendly CVs: What Actually Matters?
You may have seen advertisements claiming:
“Get a 95% ATS score and guarantee your interview!”
Be careful.
There is no single universal ATS score that determines whether every employer will shortlist your CV.
Different applicant tracking systems work differently. Some primarily store and organise applications; others provide searching, screening or ranking features.
An online CV checker cannot guarantee how every employer's system will process your application.
Here are five practical principles.
1. Use Clear Section Headings
Examples:
Professional Summary
Work Experience
Education
Skills
Certifications
2. Use Relevant Job Keywords Naturally
If the employer requires inventory control, SAP and stock reconciliation, include these terms where they accurately describe your experience.
Don't add skills you don't possess.
3. Keep Formatting Readable
For most standard applications, a clean single-column CV is a sensible starting point.
Avoid unnecessary text boxes, decorative graphics and complicated layouts that may interfere with parsing.
4. Follow File Format Instructions
If the employer asks for PDF, send PDF.
If they request Word, follow that instruction.
5. Don't Stuff Keywords
Copying the entire job description into your CV doesn't prove competence.
An ATS-friendly CV should be understandable to both software and human recruiters.
6. How to Tailor Your CV Without Rewriting Everything
Imagine you're applying for an Administrative Coordinator position.
The vacancy mentions:
Vendor coordination.
Purchase order tracking.
Excel reporting.
Document control.
Internal communication.
You have three years of relevant administration experience.
Instead of rewriting your entire career history, identify your strongest matching experience.
Generic CV:
“Handled administration work and office operations.”
Targeted CV:
“Coordinated supplier communication, maintained purchase order records and prepared Excel tracking reports for the administration and accounts teams.”
The second version uses relevant terminology and explains actual responsibilities.
Tailoring means selecting and presenting relevant experience—not inventing qualifications to match a vacancy.

7. The Recruiter's Quick CV Review
Open your CV and imagine you're reviewing it for the first time.
Can you quickly identify:
Your Target Role: Is your professional direction clear?
Relevant Experience: Is the most important experience easy to find?
Core Skills: Are your actual technical and professional skills visible?
Evidence: Do your work experience bullets describe specific responsibilities and contributions?
Credibility: Are your dates, qualifications, job titles and achievements consistent?
If several answers are unclear, your CV may need a stronger structure.
A recruiter may spend more or less time reviewing an application depending on the position and hiring process.
The purpose of this exercise is to improve clarity—not to assume every recruiter follows an identical review process.
8. Your 20-Minute CV Rewrite Workshop
You don't need to rebuild your entire CV today.
Start with three weak statements.
Minutes 1–5: Identify the Problem
Find three experience bullets that begin with:
Responsible for...
Worked on...
Helped with...
Handled...
In charge of...
These phrases aren't always wrong, but they often lead to vague descriptions.
Minutes 6–10: Identify Your Real Contribution
For each statement, answer:
What exactly did I do?
What process or responsibility did I handle?
What tools did I use?
What was the result or purpose?
Minutes 11–15: Rewrite the Statements
Use:
Action + Scope + Result
Or, when no measurable result exists:
Action + Specific Responsibility + Business Purpose
Before:
“Responsible for data entry.”
After:
“Updated customer records in the internal database, checked entries for completeness and prepared daily data summaries for the operations team.”
Minutes 16–20: Check Your Accuracy
Ask yourself:
Is this statement true?
Is it relevant to my target role?
Can I explain it during an interview?
Have I avoided exaggerated claims?
Is the wording clear and professional?
If you can answer confidently, you're improving your CV.

Monday CV Fix: Replace One Vague Sentence
Open your CV and find one line that says “Responsible for...” or “Worked on...”
Rewrite it to explain the task, its scope and its purpose.
Before: “Responsible for inventory.”
After: “Recorded stock movements, checked delivery quantities and maintained inventory records in the warehouse system.”
You don't need invented numbers to sound professional.
Specific, truthful details are often more useful than exaggerated achievements.
🎯 Your Task: Rewrite three experience bullets before your next job application.
9. Final CV Quality Checklist
Before sending your next application, check:
My target role is clear.
My professional summary reflects my real experience.
My most relevant experience is easy to find.
My work history contains specific responsibilities and contributions.
My numbers and achievements are accurate.
My technical skills match my actual knowledge.
Relevant keywords appear naturally.
My formatting is clean and readable.
My employment dates and qualifications are correct.
I can explain every achievement in an interview.
I've followed the employer's application instructions.
A strong CV doesn't need to make you look like someone else. It needs to present the strongest truthful version of your professional experience.
💬 A Note from the Founder
Dear UAE Job Seekers,
There's something I want you to think about today.
Two people can hold the same job title for five years and develop very different levels of experience.
One may have worked on complex projects, solved recurring problems and taken responsibility for important processes.
Another may have developed consistency, technical knowledge and reliability through everyday work.
Both experiences can be valuable.
But when their CVs contain only generic sentences, employers may struggle to understand those differences.
That's why I encourage you to reflect on your actual work.
Think about the difficult days when you solved a problem.
The customers you helped.
The reports you prepared.
The records you maintained.
The colleagues you supported.
The processes you learned.
The responsibilities you were trusted to handle.
These experiences form part of your professional story.
You don't have to exaggerate them.
You have to explain them.
Your years of experience tell employers how long you've worked. Your evidence helps them understand what you've learned and contributed.
This Monday, don't measure your progress only by how many applications you send.
Start by making three sentences in your CV more meaningful.
That is an improvement you can carry into every future application.
Warm regards,
