Good Morning UAE Job Seekers! ☀️🇦🇪

You have relevant experience.

You keep applying.

But the interview calls are not coming.

So you start asking yourself:

“Is my experience not good enough?”

Not necessarily.

One thing worth checking is whether your CV is structured and written in a way that works well with the Applicant Tracking Systems (ATS) many employers use during recruitment.

Today, there are no job vacancies in this email.

Instead, I want to help you understand something that could affect many of your future applications:

How Jennifer Aniston’s LolaVie brand grew sales 40% with CTV ads

For its first CTV campaign, Jennifer Aniston’s DTC haircare brand LolaVie had a few non-negotiables. The campaign had to be simple. It had to demonstrate measurable impact. And it had to be full-funnel.

LolaVie used Roku Ads Manager to test and optimize creatives — reaching millions of potential customers at all stages of their purchase journeys. Roku Ads Manager helped the brand convey LolaVie’s playful voice while helping drive omnichannel sales across both ecommerce and retail touchpoints.

The campaign included an Action Ad overlay that let viewers shop directly from their TVs by clicking OK on their Roku remote. This guided them to the website to buy LolaVie products.

The DTC beauty category is crowded. To break through, Jennifer Aniston’s brand LolaVie, worked with Roku Ads Manager to easily set up, test, and optimize CTV ad creatives. The campaign helped drive a big lift in sales and customer growth, helping LolaVie break through in the crowded beauty category.

Is your CV ATS-friendly?

First: What Is an ATS?

ATS stands for Applicant Tracking System.

Employers can use these systems to collect, organize, search and screen applications. Depending on the employer and software, ATS tools can also use job-related criteria and keywords to help recruiters identify relevant candidates.

That means your CV has two audiences to consider:

The system that processes the application — and the human who eventually reviews it.

A beautiful CV is not automatically an effective CV.

How Does ATS Read Your CV?

Imagine you're applying for a Digital Marketing Executive position.

The job description asks for experience with:

Google Ads
Meta Ads
Google Analytics
SEO
Campaign Reporting

You genuinely have experience with these tools.

But your CV simply says:

“Responsible for digital marketing activities.”

You haven't clearly communicated the skills the employer is actually looking for.

A better approach is to describe your genuine experience using relevant terminology from the vacancy.

For example:

“Managed Google Ads and Meta Ads campaigns and monitored performance using Google Analytics.”

The important rule is:

Use relevant keywords only when they truthfully describe your experience. Never add skills just to manipulate an ATS.

Career guidance from Harvard and Indeed similarly recommends tailoring a resume to the specific role and incorporating relevant job-description terminology in context.

Keywords Are Only Part of the Story

An ATS-friendly CV isn't about stuffing as many keywords as possible into two pages.

Your CV still needs to communicate:

What you did.
What skills you used.
What you achieved.
How your experience relates to the position.

So don't turn your CV into a list of random keywords.

Relevance matters more than keyword stuffing.

Formatting Can Matter Too

This is where many candidates make mistakes.

A visually impressive CV may contain:

Complicated tables
Multiple columns
Charts and graphs
Important information inside graphics
Unusual section headings
Excessive design elements

Some ATS parsers may have difficulty interpreting complex layouts correctly.

A safer CV structure generally uses:

Simple, clean layout
Standard section headings
Readable fonts
Clearly structured experience
Skills written as text
Consistent dates and job titles

Harvard career guidance specifically advises applicants to consider ATS as well as human readers and notes that complex columns, graphics and nonstandard formatting can create parsing problems.

What Makes a CV More ATS-Friendly?

Before your next application, check these 6 things:

1. Target the CV to the actual vacancy
Don't use exactly the same CV for every position.

2. Identify the important requirements in the job description
Look for skills, tools, qualifications, certifications and experience the employer repeatedly emphasizes.

3. Include relevant keywords naturally
Only include them when you genuinely possess that skill or experience.

4. Use standard headings
Sections such as Professional Summary, Work Experience, Skills and Education are clearer than creative section names.

5. Keep the structure simple
Don't sacrifice readability for unnecessary design.

6. Write for humans too
Passing a parser isn't the final goal. Your CV still needs to convince a recruiter or hiring manager that you're relevant to the role.

One More Important Point About “ATS Scores”

There is no single universal ATS score used identically by every employer.

Different recruitment systems and employers can configure screening and ranking differently.

So when an online CV checker gives you a score, treat it as a diagnostic indicator, not a guarantee that an employer's ATS will give you exactly the same number or that a higher number guarantees an interview.

The real objective should be:

Make your CV relevant, readable, truthful and easy for both software and recruiters to understand.
